Basically, you go online - and find interesting websites that relate to your major and intended area of study.

At the top of the page, give your personal information, and include the name of your major, and in a few words state what areas of research you would like to focus on in the next two years.

Also, as you read the articles, you should find some power expressions of collocations. They are used frequenty in academic or spoken conversations. Find collocations that relate to your field.

Make a list of the collocations (at least 20) (but, really, 30 is better). Brainstorm on two letter words, and make another list of your own collocations - such as landing site, launch pad, building site, mouse pad, musically inclined, emotionally attached, ...

Do some extra reading and talking - to yourself, a classmate, a foreigner.
