The fire and smashing is the videomaker's interpretation of the song, and expresses a common response in a moment of great frustration. I talked previously of the man who lived three floors down who set is apartment on fire when he and his estranged wife were in it. Poor man. He is still doing hospital visits to get his skin back. He has to fix up the apartment and then sell it because he has to pay lots of money such as hospital bills, neighbors who were in the building at the same time, and so on.

Hammers (excessive force) and fire (excessive heat) are both not means by which people should dialogue. Tom Atlee in his excellent book The Tao of Democracy , quotes the Dalai Lama

In human societies there will always be differences of views and interests. But the reality today is that we are all interdependent and have to co-exist on this small planet. Therefore, the only sensible and intelligent way of resolving differences and clashes of interests, whether between individuals or nations, is through dialogue. The promotion of a culture of dialogue and non-violence for the future of mankind is thus an important task of the international community.
- Dalai Lama

Echoes my sentiments.
